Ohio Behavioral Health agencies forced to change how they submit and manage claims in 2018
Stow, Ohio Feb. 11, 2019: On July 1st, 2018 Ohio Medicaid changed the way Behavioral Health (BH) agencies were required to submit their claims. Etactics (www.etacticsinc.com), an Ohio-based revenue cycle solutions provider, played a vital role in helping Ohio agencies adjust to that change by providing already established connections between the BH agencies and the newly required Managed Care Organizations (MCOs). Those established connections included Buckeye Health Plan, CareSource, Molina, Paramount, and United Healthcare Community Plan.
Previously, many of the BH agencies submitted their Medicaid BH claims and verified insurance coverage directly within the Ohio Medicaid Information Technology System (MITS) portal. Without an all-connected clearinghouse, many agencies were forced to go to individual MCO portals or work with clearinghouses that were unable to provide an electronic connection for either claims, insurance verification, or electronic remittance advices. These inefficiencies resulted in extra manual labor to process paperwork and inaccuracies in their accounting postings.
